Transgender surgery, also called Gender Confirmation Surgery, entails a variety of surgical options for individuals suffering from gender dysphoria. The goal of surgery is to help the individual achieve lasting comfort with their gendered self and allow the individual’s body to be congruous with who they know themselves to be. The surgical options for transmen (MTF) and transwomen (FTM) include reshaping of the face and chest/breast, body contouring, and genital surgery.
Dr. Schechter will be joined throughout the course by other plastic surgeons, psychologists, urologists, endocrinologists, and maxillofacial surgeons to discuss the multispecialty nature of transgender health. Weekly topics include: Primary care, psychology ~ Surgical overview, history, anatomy ~ Breast augmentation, chest contouring and body contouring ~ Facial Feminization ~ Facial Masculinization ~ Genital surgery:anatomy, vaginoplasty, metoidoplasty ~ Patient Safety and health policy.
